When the beta was over, my final score improved to over %70, masters level, so I converted the exam to a certification. My new CDMP certificate has the extra Data Governance and Stewardship certification on it. Technically I could pay an extra fee and get the DGP certification as well but so far I haven't done that.

A bunch of years ago (I suspect it was in 2006 at my 25th anniversary reunion) I dropped by the CSC office, which was open at the time. It had doubled in size by taking over the Watsfic space and removing the wall in between. I asked about the dalek and someone there had heard of it and thought it was still somewhere in the building (though I've since read that it actually no longer exists) -- it was nice for me that there was still a bit of legacy from when we were there.

I installed Hardy Heron on my dad's computer after experiencing too many issues with x64 Vista (basically it was corrupting, requiring reinstalls, and MS would only recommend more reinstalls. Was very disappointed with MS support).

I've since upgraded dad to Lucid Lynx.

It's very easy to use, and I feel the machine still runs very quickly. However, if an upgrade fails or there's a driver issue, it can take a while to figure out how to fix the problem.

That notwithstanding, I'd still wholeheartedly recommend Ubuntu.

Thanks for your comment. A friend of mine is putting together a presentation on the history of databases, I will pass on your website to him. Both he and I got our start in databases in the 1990s and started right off with Oracle, Ingres and the like so we missed the IMS/IDMS era. It has been fascinating learning about it now.

The statspack data lends itself to be graphed with Excel. The data is all time based so it can be graphed as a statistic or set of statistics changing over time quite simply. Time based graphs are very common so Excel has tools to support creating them and it is easy for just about anyone to get some idea from them.

What is more intriguing for managers is to be able to look at a graph and get a feel of the health of the database. This is even more so as, though managers love to pose as geeks and burp out jargons and buzz words at every possible change to shine, in the deep of their hearts they are confident that all they need is a graph.

I would suggest it would be of a great value to add cool tools to convert your DW analysis of the statistics cubes into graphs, to the arsenal of tools you are looking forward to build.
