Oracle GSS

The Oracle Global Single Schema. This is just the sort of thing we expect from Oracle, only they would try it, only they might pull it off. Arrogant, audacious but with just enough tech cred that they might get away with it.

Just imagine, Oracle will define the best schema for your business, in fact, for all business. And they can get away with it because, let’s face it, most homegrown database architectures are hairball architectures. Bob Rhubart recently finished several Oracle podcasts talking about hairball architectures. Nobody wants to pay for data architects anymore, instead architecture gets left to project developers, which really means no architecture at all. In that case you probably are better off using Oracle GSS, at least it was designed by a team that know what they are doing, more or less. At least it was designed at all.

There are, of course, many other sources of canned schemas and architectures. But, as far as I know, only Oracle claims to have the one schema for all and everything. Love him or hate him, would we expect anything less from Larry E. ?
